Comparing Europe and US hosting

Comparing Europe and US hosting

When it comes to choosing a hosting server or a shared account many don’t know what’s better for them so we are going to do a small comparison.

Speed

Let’s say you are located somewhere in Europe, Germany maybe – and your site’s visitors are mostly from Europe. Your visitors will have best connection speed with an Europe host.

Can you choose a US host anyway? Of course, you could get better speed with a fast server (not oversold) in the US than with and slow oversold server in Europe. If you aren’t running a download site and you pages have only a few kilos in size it won’t matter that much where your hosting account is located.

Price

US hosts are cheaper than Europe hosts, one of the reason is that there’s a though competition between US hosts and there are more datacenters in the US than there are in Europe.

SEO Purposes

What? Yes, you heard me…if you have a German site, if you want people to find you when they use Google to “find a site located in” your server should be located in Germany.

In the end it all comes down to personal preference. I host a few Romanian sites and they are all located on servers in the US, I don’t think too many people use that Google function anyway :)

The best hosts in Europe are located in the UK and Germany but this is just my opinion. Great US host are located in Texas, California.

P.S: A hosting company located somewhere in Europe may only sell hosting on servers located in USA and a US host may sell hosting on servers located in Europe.

Will the two major powers agree on something, finally. Its very apparent who tips the scale when it comes to US or Europe. A more appropriate way to host can be found here.

That picture has nothing to do with the article, but it made me read it! :)

Normally a Whois im sure will tell you where your site is located, make sure you find your sites location and not your domain registrar though!

hosted on europe = you’ll have to pay using Euro currency or British Poundsterling which is really expensive (at least for me who live in a 3rd world country)
