We7 Sony free music downloads

Sony BMG has long been the arch-nemesis of the music downloads. Now it has apparently switched sides to become stable-mate We7, Peter Gabriel’s ad-supported online music store. Sony has pledged to allow its entire back cat to be made available for free, streaming music on the website. Amazing news; excellent news for us fans, but the nail in the coffin for those in the industry (which until very recently included Sony BMG) that have refused to acknowledge the interest of the consumer in music downloads.

This announcement comes at the same time as 24-7 Entertainment is preparing to launch unlimited mobile music downloads for a Nordic provider. Users of the 24-7 Entertainment service will be able to gain access to unlimited legal music downloads without paying an extra fee on top of their mobile bills. The exact details of the deal are unclear, but it seems that tracks will be downloaded with DRM (unlike We7 tracks which include no DRM at all) attached, but users will be able to transfer to their Mp3 players and burn to as many CDs as they like.
