App Store is Here!!!
Apple’s forthcoming app store is likely to benefit a lot of people in a lot of different ways. It will benefit users of the iPhone (and Mac) because they will be able to get free and premium apps for their gadgets and computers. It will help the developers by providing a centralized distribution point, meaning that their apps will gain exposure that might otherwise pass them by.
Of course the app store will greatly benefit Apple. Otherwise they wouldn’t be doing it now, would they?
Apple stand to make two areas of gains: one through the cut of revenue accrued from sales in the app store (30% of the revenue made by developers) and another through the adding of value to the existing iPhone deal.
But these plans may be scuppered slightly if figures from a recent survey are to be believed: around 71% of apps in the app store will be available for free. Bad news for Apple on the direct revenue front. On top of this the average price of a paid-for app is likely to be set at $2.29, a huge drop from Apple’s estimated $10 level. This will not deter the technology giant, though as the intangible benefits will likely outweigh the direct ones.
